According to reports this evening, Boko Haram 
has seized the town of Chibok in Borno state, 
northeast Nigeria, from where 276 school girls 
were kidnapped more than six months ago, a local 
pastor and a senator told AFP today.
“Chibok was taken by Boko Haram. They are in 
control,” said Enoch Mark, a Christian pastor 
whose daughter and niece are among the 219 
teenagers still being held.
Mark and the senator for southern Borno, Ali 
Ndume, said the militants attacked at about 4:00 
pm (1500 GMT) on Thursday, destroying 
communications masts and forcing residents to 
flee.
Ndume said that he had received calls from 
fleeing residents saying the town “was now under 
their Boko Haram) control”.
“There is no telephone service now in Chibok, which 
is why it took time before the reports reached 
me,” he added

A nursing student who has been dubbed the 
world's sexiest criminal while some refer to her as 
the world’s most beautiful criminal, whose 
pictures appeared online few weeks back when she 
was arrested by the police for criminal offences 
and her mugshot posted online was yesterday 
arraigned in court.
Stephanie Beaudoing, 21, became a world topic 
shortly after the pictures emerged has some 
people even went as far as comparing her looks to 
that of Kim K and wants the Canadian 
Government to forgive her for her crimes 
because of her beauty.
Stephanie who appeared in court yesterday, 
apologized for her crime spree after agreeing to 
plead guilty to a string of charges that could see 
her locked away for years. 
She was accused of 114 separate crimes, including 
theft and illegally possessing a stash of nine guns, 
with which some were found in her car. But now 
feeling sorry, she says she's seen the error of 
her ways, and is prepared for her punishment.
Her lawyers however said she is prepared to enter 
guilty pleas to around 30 of the accusations in a 
plea deal which will see Canadian prosecutors drop 
the rest of the charges. They also claimed she 
carried out the crimes while going through 
depression.

Canadian authorities believe Stephanie worked 
with three underage accomplices - ages 13, 15 
and 17 - to burgle residence in the Athabaska 
and Maple areas. The young accomplices are 
however being processed by Canadian youth court

Nigeian doctors killed my boy

Former governor of old Anambra State, Senator 
Jim Nwobodo, on Tuesday broke the silence, as he 
alleged that his son, Ifeanyichukwu, died out of 
negligence of a Nigeria doctor.
Senator Nwobodo stated that his son was already 
cured at Anderson Medical Cancer Centre in 
Huston Texas, USA and was asked to stay longer in 
USA, but he returned to Nigeria for nostalgia of 
his family, when he developed pains on the legs 
which took him to a consultant oncologist at the 
University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), 
Enugu.
He further revealed that the doctor, instead of 
taking him to the teaching hospital where there 
were facilities for emergency, rather referred 
his son to his private clinic, where the doctor 
administered his son with an injection and in no 
distant moment, he died.
Senator Nwobodo made the revelation when the 
Abia State governor, Chief Theodore Orji, paid 
him a condolence visit in his country home in 
Amechi, Awkunanaw, Enugu. 
Chief Nwobodo said the doctor, on discovery of 
the complication of the drug, tried to rush his son 
to Niger Foundation Hospital, but he died even 
before getting there.
He said: “My son had been sick for five months 
before I knew about it and was planning to go to 
India before we took him to USA. He was given 
visa for two years, because the cancer was at 
stage four, but they treated him. 
“When he came back, his leg started to swell up 
and he thought he should see a doctor and I 
advised him to see the best oncologist. 
It took us 
three weeks to see the doctor. On Friday, I spoke 
with him three times a day and he was to see the 
doctor between 5.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. I called 
him and he said he was with the doctor, I 
requested to speak with the doctor, but he said 
he was busy.
“Instead of the doctor to take him to UNTH, he 
took him to his private clinic, where he had no 
equipment, no facility at all. I called him again 
and when I did not hear from him, I sent him a 
text message and I asked the doctor to tell me 
why he gave my son an injection which made him 
unconscious; he said he was sorry and that he was 
trying to resuscitate him. I spoke with him at 
6.30 p.m. and by 7.00 p.m, my son was dead.

Man Commits Suicide In Church

A 24-year-old man, Lanre Falodu, has reportedly 
committed suicide in a church premises in Owo 
area of Ondo State, where he was taken for 
deliverance.
The deceased brother, Tunde, according to a 
police source, took him to the church located at 
Imola area of Owo to seek spiritual solution to his 
problem.
It was learned that the deceased, who had been in 
church for some time, reportedly escaped at 
about 5:30a.m. on the ill-fated day. 
He was said to have hung himself on a tree within 
the church premises.
His lifeless body was discovered by the pastor of 
the church, who informed Police in Owo.
A team of homicide detectives was dispatched to 
the scene, where the deceased’s body was 
removed and deposited at Owo General Hospital 
morgue.
But a police source in Owo said the pastor of the 
church and father of the deceased had been 
questioned.
He confided in Vanguard that the deceased might 
have some mental challenge hence his sojourn in 
the church for spiritual deliverance. 
The state police command has insisted in 
conducting the autopsy to ascertain the cause of 
his death.

during the three-day meeting aimed at tackling 
malnutrition.

The meeting organised by the UN food agency 
(FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) 
was attended by representatives from 190 
countries. Francis once again urged the world’s 
population to have ‘mutual respect, instead of 
fighting between themselves, damaging and 
impoverishing the planet.
The 77-year old said the world had “paid too 
little heed to those who are hungry. It is also 
painful to see the struggle against hunger and 
malnutrition hindered by ‘market priorities’, the 
‘primacy of profit’, which reduce foodstuffs to a 
commodity like any other, subject to speculation 
and financial speculation in particular.”
The number of undernourished people dropped by 
over half in the past two decades, 805 million 
people were still affected in 2014 
‘The hungry remain at the street corner… and ask 
for a healthy diet. We ask for dignity, not for 
charity. Feed the hungry, save life on the 
planet,” Francis said at the end of his speech 
which was met with a standing ovation.
While the number of undernourished people 
dropped by over half in the past two decades, 805 
million people were still affected in 2014. Two 
billion people suffer from deficiencies in nutrients 
such as vitamin A, iron and zinc – a condition 
known as ‘hidden hunger’ by experts – while 42 
million children and 500 million adults are 
overweight or obese.

Students attack female teacher with machetes in Imo

Some male students Obosima Secondary Technical School in Imo State attacked a 
female teacher with machetes. 
The unfortunate incident occurred because the victim, Mary-Ann Oguezuonu, scolded 
a female JSS2 student who had changed from school uniform into a skimpy outfit 
that was deemed inappropriate for a school environment.
Oguezuonu threatened that school authorities would send her away from the school if 
she was ever seen dressing in that manner again. While advising the young girl, an 
SS1 male student confronted her, telling her to stop embarrassing the girl, Vanguard 
reports. He then grabbed the teacher’s blouse, as he yelled at her. 
Other teachers found out what had happened, and immediately sent the male student 
into the staff room, where he was subsequently flogged.
As Oguezuonu was nursing her five-month-old baby in the staff room, the male 
student mobilized other students, suspected to be cult members, and they attacked 
her with cutlasses.
The victim is reportedly in critical condition, as doctors battle to save her life.
Chimaobi Precious Agu, who is said to be the main suspect in the attack, is currently 
at large. Police authorities are currently investigating the case, and some arrests 
have been made.

UNIZIK Students invent automobile

Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra 
State, has become a centre of attraction after 
five of its graduating students fabricated an 
automobile, using locally-sourced materials and 
gadgets. FRANKLIN ONWUBIKO (400-Level Mass 
Communication) reports. 
Can Nigerian engineers manufacture an 
automobile, using local resources? It is possible!
Five engineering students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe 
University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, have 
shown how the feat can be achieved.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the 
university was the centre of attraction last week 
when the students unveiled an automobile they 
designed and built. They drove it round the 
campus.
The manufacturers, Augustus Okoyenta, 
Chukwuebuka Okeke, Chikeluba Ezeani, 
Kenechukwu Ofoegbu and Ebenezer Igbokwe are 
graduating students of the department. They 
fabricated the vehicle as their final year project, 
using locally- sourced materials.
They named their vehicle “Auto-Zik Formula 1 
Car”. The design of the racing car, which operates 
at the speed of 180km/h, was carried out under 
the supervision of a lecturer in the department, 
Dr Solomon Nwiegbe.
There was excitement on the campus when the 
vehicle was test-driven by Chikeluba around the 
Administrative Block before it was presented to 
the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Joseph Ahaneku.
The VC was joined by senior management members 
to shower encomiums on the students and their 
supervisor, describing the project as a brilliant 
feat. Members of the management were 
astonished when the students explained how they 
came up with the automobile. They analysed the 
mechanics, principles and calculations that made 
the project a reality.
Prof Ahaneku hailed the students, saying they had 
started home-made automobile transformation in 
the country. He praised Prof Sam Omenyi, the 
pioneer lecturer in the department, for shooting 
the school into technological spotlight. 
Science and 
technology, the VC said, are the engines that 
power economic transformation.
He said: “This university has always been known 
for excellence and these students have 
demonstrated the excellence. This is a novel 
project; you don’t need any further evaluation to 
know that these students belong to the class of 
excellence. They will be going Abuja in December to 
exhibit the project and other works. We train 
students to leave as job creators and not 
employment seekers.”
Dr Nwigbo described the students as wonderful 
and resourceful, saying it took the team two 
years to design the automobile. 
He said: “The spirit of engineering in them was 
brought to bear. The boys passed through stress 
and training; now they have achieved their goal.
Showcasing undergraduate research project 
before the management is no mean feat. I am not 
happy because they made a car but the quality of 
students we are churning out. They are 
disciplined, ready to learn and obedient.”
The leader of the team, Augustus, said the task 
was to design a racing car with less air drag when 
in motion, using cost-effective materials. This 
took them almost two years.
He said: “The achievement was not easy to come 
by; it took us days, weeks and months of hard 
work, sleepless nights, brainstorming and 
determination to succeed in the assignment. We 
used division of labour model, with each of us 
specialising in certain aspect of the design. I 
designed the chassis, the suspension as well as the 
hub. Chikeluba designed the brake system. The 
transmission and steering systems were designed 
by Chukwuebuka. While Ebenezer focused on the 
ergonomics (comfort of the driver), Kenechukwu 
designed the body.
“We spent about N400,000 on the project.
Although the department and Students’ Union 
supported us, but we bore most of the financial 
burden.”
The students were grateful to their parents, who 
they said believed in their vision and supported 
them financially and morally. They also described 
their supervisor as a “wonderful man,” who 
encouraged them to work. They listed the 
challenges encountered in the process to include 
unstable electricity that prevented them from 
testing some of the gadgets in the vehicle, and 
working overnight, funding and lack of requisite 
machines. 
The Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, 
Dr Chinonso Achebe, said the feat was an 
indication that the department was not only 
proficient in theory but teach its students in 
practice. According to him, theoretical laws were 
juxtaposed with practical principles to carry out 
the project.
“We are grateful to God for giving these students 
wisdom to achieve this feat. This shows that 
engineers are good managers of resources. A 
project of this magnitude was carried out at a 
very conservative cost,” he said.
The HOD said the department had keyed into the 
programmes of the Vice Chancellor, who, he said, 
wrote a proposal to departments to look into 
research and set funds aside to facilitate it.
On how to overcome challenges faced by students 
carrying out research, Dr Achebe said: “The 
department and Institute of Mechanical 
Engineering partly supported the Auto-Zik 
project. There was epileptic power supply which 
affected the pace of work but things improved 
later on. Plans are underway to improve facilities 
in our engineering workshop and make it better.
The Dean of Faculty of Engineering is working 
towards achieving that.”

Lecturer Stabs Student

The lecturer, Mr. Chris Otu stabbed the victim in the eye after the student offered 
him a white board marker to teach the class. Eye witnesses are said to be ignorant of 
what might have led to the stabbing. 
A lecturer at the University of Calabar , Chris Otu , has been accused of stabbing a 
student in the eye with his car key. 
According to reports from the university, the third year Computer Science 
Department coordinator was reportedly stabbed by the lecturer, Mr. Chris Otu, on 
Friday, November 21, after he brought a white board marker to the lecturer which is 
a normal routine in the university. 
According to the reports, after appearing for a lecture two hours late, the 
coordinator approached the lecturer with the white board marker, only for Mr. Chris 
Otu to hit the student’s head with a book. He reached for his car key in his pocket 
with which he stabbed the victim. 
According to the reports from the university, many were wondering what could have 
resulted to the stabbing as there was no argument between the two, prior to the 
stabbing. 
The victim has been partially blinded in one eye by the stabbing and has been treated 
by a hospital. 
The lecturer according to the reports who they say is an ex-cultist, was very 
unremorseful about the stabbing, instead telling students in the class to go and ask 
about him from other in the school.

Ex-Egypt ruler Hosni Mubarak cleared of corruption and murder charges

Former Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak has 
been cleared of charges of corruption and killing 
of hundreds of Egyptian protesters in a 
revolution that toppled him in 2011.
Mubarak ruled Egypt for 29 years. The 86-year- 
old Mubarak was convicted in 2012 of issuing 
orders to kill peaceful protesters during the 
country's 2011 uprising and was sentenced to life 
in prison. He appealed and was granted a new 
trial last year.
Also acquitted were Mubarak's former Interior 
Minister Habib el-Adly and six of el-Adly's aides, 
who'd been accused of being connected to the 
deaths of 239 protesters as security forces 
cracked down on them in 2011.
Mubarak's two sons 
also were acquitted Saturday of corruption.
Mubarak still has a three-year sentence for a 
previous conviction for embezzlement, but it not

FG To Distribute Free Clean Cook Stoves To Citizens

The Nigerian government has approved N9billion 
for the distribution of 750, 000 Clean Cook Stoves 
and 18,000 Wonder bags to Nigerians, in a bid to 
stop the depletion of forest resources caused by 
indiscriminate felling of trees.
The approval followed a memo presented by the 
Minister of Environment, Laurentia Mallam, at the 
weekly Federal Executive Council meeting the 
Federal Government.
The stoves and wonder bags, meant for women in 
the rural areas, would be distributed under the 
National Clean Cooking Scheme, NCCS, which seeks 
to stem the use of solid fossils like firewood and 
charcoal for cooking.

ASUU ON THE NEWS AGAIN...

Every average student in Nigeria is SCARED of 
these people called asuu, will they are in the news 
again but this time it has nothing to do with the 
past strike that we all had to pay for........
The Academic Staff Union of 
Universities (ASUU) yesterday 
revealed that the management of the 
Lagos State University (LASU) has 
withdrawn the PhD certificates of 
some of its members which include 
the branch ASUU LASU chairman, Dr. 
Adekunle Idris. 
ASUU Lagos zonal Coordinator, Dr. 
Sola Nasir, dropped the bombshell at 
a press briefing held at the old LASU 
Sociology Department lecture hall of 
LASU and flanked by ASUU chairmen 
from University of Lagos, Olabisi 
Onabanjo University, University of 
Agriculture Abeokuta, Tai Solarin 
University of Education and the host 
ASUU-LASU. 
The ASUU-LASU, Dr. Adekunle Idris 
confirmed that the management 
withdrew his PhD and that of 13 
others from different departments 
claiming errors were made in the 
wordings. 
According to Dr. Nasir, the LASU 
management in their letters to the 
affected lecturers said it discovered 
some errors in their PhD and asked 
the holders to return them. He said 
the union expect them to correct it 
and produce new ones for Dr. Idris 
and others. 
His words: ‘’The ASUU-LASU 
chairman, Dr Idris is not alone, there 
are 14 other lecturers with the 
Accounting Department having the 
highest with five. For LASU Senate to 
have made those errors, it places 
question mark on the persons that 
make up the Senate. We can rule 
that the purpose was to victim some 
of our members’’. 
The ASUU Lagos coordinator called 
on Governor Babatunde Fashola to 
set up a visitation panel on LASU and 
also urged the state government to 
call the VC to order to give peace a 
chance. 
‘’What we experiencing in LASU is a 
fall out of the last ASUU-LASU strike. 
ASUU Lagos zone and national are 
behind ASUU-LASU. We will fight him 
(VC) until he is out of the office’’, Dr. 
Nasir, warned. 
Giving details of the PhD withdraw, 
Dr. Idris, said he concluded his PhD in 
2011 and was issued the certificate in 
2012 and signed by the current Vice 
Chancellor, Prof John Obafunwa and 
the former Registrar, Mr. Lateef 
Animashaun. 
‘’I fulfilled all the conditions before 
being issued the PhD certificate. It is 
because of the last ASUU strike, it is a 
backlash. They are withdrawing the 
certificate, if I were working abroad 
what will happen? The Senate that 
took the decision ended there 
meeting after 8pm without lunch or 
dinner for the Professors and others. 
‘’Accreditation is coming in 
December in 2014, five of lecturers 
whose certificates were withdrawn 
are from a department that will face 
National Universities Commission 
(NUC) accreditation team. Th3e issue 
of certificate withdraw is an act of 
victimization. There are 14 persons 
involved, but I know I am the target. 
In the letter asking me to return the 
PhD certificate, no time frame was 
given unlike others’’. 
‘’ My PhD is in the Business Admin 
(Marketing) but they say the error is 
the marketing but my counsel has 
written the Governing Council and VC, 
Prof Obafunwa on the PhD certificate 
withdraw’’. 
Daily Sun gathered that two of those 
affected in the Accounting 
Department used same PhD 
certificates to earn promotion to 
Associate Professors.

IMSU STUDENT DIES DURING CELEBRATION OF FINAL YEAR STUDENTS

No one knew that tragedy was lurking in the 
corner as final year students of the Imo state 
university finished writing their exams and 
embraced the normal pouring of liquid on them by 
school mates to celebrate them.
However , it was water pouring gone awry as a 
student who was only identified as Chisom got 
dead Wed...nesday 26th November,2104. 
An eyewitness narrated that the victim fell into a 
ditch as he was running around and pouring water 
on final year students and by the time he was 
rescued from the ditch he has died. 
"We were celebrating our final year students by 
pouring them water, so as we were running around 
he fell inside a pit full of dirty water but it 
didn’t cover his head but before we could draw 
him out he was dead already because he was 
asthmatic” the witness said. 
His corpse has since been deposited at Aladinma 
Mortuary from where it was taken to his home 
town Ihiala in Anambra 
All attention is on the school management for its 
position to be made known on the issue.
