BREAKING: INEC to decide on poll shift Saturday

The Independent National Electoral 
Commission, INEC, has stated that it would 
hold a meeting with chairmen and secretaries 
of all registered political parties, and Resident 
Electoral Commissioners, RECs on Saturday, to 
decide whether to go ahead with the general 
elections billed for February 14 and 28.
A statement Friday by Kayode Idowu, the 
spokesperson of INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, 
said after meetings, “the Commission will 
address a press conference to brief the nation 
on its decision with regard to whether or not 
the general elections will hold as currently 
scheduled”.
Mr. Jega had on Thursday briefed the National 
Council of States on the preparedness of the 
Commission to conduct the 2015 general 
elections.
He made a presentation titled, Preparations 
for the 2015 General Elections: Progress 
Report.
The National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo 
Dasuki, and Armed Services Chiefs also 
briefed the Council on the current security 
situation.
Mr. Jega had informed the council that the 
commission was in a better position to 
conduct the election at present compared to 
the 2011 election.
“Compared with the 2011 General Elections, 
for instance, our systems are definitely more 
robust. We believe that we are ready for the 
elections as planned,” Mr. Jega said.

FG bans foreign trips for officials using government funds

The Federal government has banned all public officials from embarking on 
international travels and foreign training using government funds. The ban was 
contained in a circular released today February 5th by the office of the head of the 
Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Danladi Kifasi.
The circular, titled ‘Restrictions on Foreign Trainings and International Travels by 
Public Servants, stated that the move is part of the Federal governments measure to 
manage its funds in the face of the current slide in oil price in the international 
market.
"Government has embarked on a number of measures to help manage the 
situation. One of such measures is an embargo on foreign trainings and 
international travels by public servants in all ministries, departments and 
agencies, including all parastatals, beginning from January 2015.” the statement 
said The statement went further to add that “proposals for participation or 
attendance of international conferences, seminars, workshops, study tours, 
trainings, presentations of papers, negotiating/signing of memoranda of 
understating (MOU) abroad at government expense, shall no longer be allowed 
except those that are fully funded by sponsoring /invitation organisations. Public 
servants invited for foreign trainings/study tour, conferences by any 
organisation, government or other bilateral/multilateral organisation will be 
allowed to travel provided that no travel cost, estacode application or any other 
cost on government is involved. Local training will continue and, where necessary, 
foreign experts may be invited to conduct trainings for which there are no local 
experts and requests for international travels is essential and strategic cases 
must be strictly justified with evidence of sources of funding.”.

Couple Shot Dead At Wedding Venue By Jilted Ex-Lover In Delta

A man who was apparently angry after being ditched by his girlfriend had caused 
serious chaos in the Ukala community of Delta State on Saturday, January 31, 
2015 when he stormed the wedding venue of his ex-girlfriend, and shot the couple 
to death.
He went further to shoot sporadically at the guests who were gathered to witness 
the event and eventually killed the bride’s mother in the process, Nigerian Monitor 
reports.
The venue of the ill-fated wedding, which was also to serve as reception for the 
guests, was laid waste when trouble started immediately after the couple’s first 
dance. The bride who was simply identified as Stephany, was a graduate of Office 
Management and Technology from one of the polytechnics in the state. 
It was 
learnt that she had walked up to her ex-boyfriend simply identified as Teddy to 
inform him that she was tired of their relationship which had lasted for eight 
years without leading them to the altar. Some sources in the know disclosed that 
her intention was to make Teddy propose to marry her with immediate effect 
since they had both secured jobs.
After receiving the news, Teddy was said to have started nurturing plans to 
finally settle down with her. Things took new turns however, when Stephany’s mum 
suddenly appeared with a United Kingdom-based businessman who arrived Nigeria 
in December 2014 and introduced him to Stephany.
The deceased bride’s mum told her that the unnamed United Kingdom man was in 
dire need of a wife and Stephany who was desperate to settle down welcomed the 
idea since virtually all her mates were married.
They started plans to tie the knot as soon as practicable without any knowledge of 
the unforeseen danger ahead.
Unfortunately they could not live to tell the story 
of their big day as the bride’s angry ex-lover decided to nip the relationship in 
the bud by sniffing life out of them halfway into their wedding ceremony.

FRAUD: Italian Arraigned For Defrauding Zenith Bank Of N717m

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal 
High Court in Lagos yesterday ordered 
that a Nigerian-based Italian businessman, 
Piero Allan Franchillo, be remanded in 
prison custody for allegedly defrauding 
Zenith Bank Plc of the sum of N717 million.
The Italian was arraigned before the court 
on a five-count charge of advanced fee 
fraud, forgery and altering of documents 
by lawyers from the Special Fraud Unit of 
the Nigerian Police.
The accused person, however, pleaded not 
guilty to all the counts, a development 
that made the court to order that he be 
kept in custody pending the hearing and 
determination of his bail application on 
February 7.
Before the case was adjourned, the 
prosecutor, Mrs Susan Ezema had informed 
the court that the foreigner conspired 
with others who are still at large, to obtain 
about N717 million from Zenith Bank, for 
the construction of a Mall at Effurun, 
Delta State.
Ezema also alleged that the accused person 
fraudulently converted the money to his 
own use rather than executing the project 
for which the sum was obtained.
She said the alleged offence was 
committed between August 2013 and April 
2014, at Zenith Bank’s headquarters in 
Victoria Island, Lagos.

NUC abolishes award of Pass Grade in Nigerian universities

The National Universities Commission ( NUC) has abolished the award of Pass Degree 
in Nigerian Universities with effect from the 2013/ 2014 academic session. 
This decision was made known by the Vice Chancellor of the Usmanu Danfodiyo 
University, Sokoto, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru during the school's 2014/2015 matriculation 
ceremony which held yesterday February 4th in Sokoto. 
According to Prof Zuru, the grading system of students in the universities has 
changed. 
“What this means is that the minimum pass mark for courses in the universities 
will now be 45 per cent, that is, D-grade instead of the previous 40 per cent 
which was E-grade while the minimum class of grade to be earned by the 
students will be now be Third Class,” he said.

School To Remain Open During Elections

The Minster of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, has directed all public and private 
schools to remain in section during the elections.
The minster gave these directives during a meeting with the Commissioners of 
Education from the 36 states in Nigeria.
Mr. Shekarau noted that a lot of time had already been wasted by many schools as a 
result of the Ebola crisis in 2014.
He said the elections were not enough reason for the government to close down 
schools and urged parents to disregard any rumour or unfounded statement that 
could make them insist that the schools be closed and their children released to 
them.
He also directed all schools on mid-term break to suspend such and resume 
immediately and also ordered those planning to go on mid-term break to put it on 
hold.
“It is our belief that we have had elections in the past and schools were in session 
and in view of the fact that this is just happening almost second term and we have 
suffered a lot of loss of time during the last Ebola crisis and many schools are 
battling to catch up the lost period,” he said 
He called on the state governments to ensure the provision of adequate security to 
ensure the security of the students whose schools were near polling stations especially

Youth Protests For The Postponement Of Nigeria February General Elections (PHOTOS)

Protesters numbering about 100 stormed the 
headquarters of the Independent National 
Electoral Commission, INEC, Monday, demanding 
the postponement of this month’s general 
election.
The youth gathered at the INEC headquarters in 
the Maitama District of Abuja asking it to delay 
the polls because of the difficulty in the 
distribution of the Permanent Voters Card, PVCs.
According to the protesters, only 40 per cent of 
the poll had been distributed ahead of the 
February 14 
and 28 elections. They also claimed that INEC 
needed 960,000 ad hoc staff but that at the time 
of their protest the staff had not been engaged.
They argued that if the polls were allowed to go 
ahead as scheduled, several million Nigerians 
would not be able to vote.
The youth, who gathered at Unity Fountain beside 
Hilton Hotel before marching to the INEC 
headquarters on Zambezi Street, were bearing 
banners and placards with the inscriptions such as 
“Election is for general participation, not for 
selective few” 
“INEC, do the right thing,” “Don’t disenfranchise 
Nigerians,” “We demand for the extension of 
election to allow Nigerian exercise their 
franchise.”

Many people who refuse to have sex before 
marriage do so based on religious beliefs. It is a 
sin and so they don't want to offend God.
Virgins aren't the only ones who are entitled to a 
no sex relationship. Even if he/she isn't a virgin 
they still have the right to stop sinning. Losing 
their virginity doesn't mean free access to sex 
with anyone. So in other not to sin against their 
bodies they say no sex before marriage. I hold 
such people in great admiration, they have strong 
will power.
Although what I do not understand is the same 
people who don't want to sin by not having sex go 
about kissing, smooching, romancing, getting 
naked and doing every other thing besides 
penetration. I ask is that one not a sin? Abi is it 
an act of righteousness? You don't want to sin by 
not having sex but you sin by engaging in sexual 
activities.
That's confusion if I may ask. I'm not here to 
argue the authenticity of the virginity of the one 
who does all these. To me they still are virgins if 
they haven't ever been penetrated but that isn't 
the argument here.
The argument is why share meat using your teeth 
when you have sworn never to eat it? I prefer 
hearing people tell me they don't want to have 
sex because they aren't emotionally ready for it 
yet than someone telling me they are doing it cuz 
it is a sin to have sex cuz most of them kiss, 
fondle and have oral sex. So if having sex is a sin 
why then indulge in other sexual activities?

HOW TO OVERCOME NEGATIVE THOUGHTS

I used to think i was ugly. Can you believe that? Fine boy like me. (see them, you 
want to gan zoom my pix abi?) 
But really, i used to think i was horribly bad looking. Growing up, i had pimples on my 
face that were the same size as big rocks and those ''rocks'' really messed up with 
my head.
I'm in my early twenties now, the pimples are gone and these days when i look in the 
mirror i feel myself *winks* you can now zoom my pix and feel the boy.
But you see, on a more serious note - negative thoughts are some really serious 
things. Thing is, everybody has it from time to time. ''i'm i good enough'', ''i'm 
broke, she won't like me'', ''my boobs are too small'', ''why is she not moaning, is my 
stuff too small'' Name it.
Recently i started having mine, serious mind wreaking negative thoughts - this time 
it wasn't about my looks - it was about my future.
But you see, i have come to realize something: your limiting beliefs, your negative 
thoughts - you can't eliminate them just by thinking positively. As in, all these think 
positive talk is hogwash. Chill, stop looking at this write up like i just slapped you.
I have like 8 years experience of fighting negative thoughts so i know what i'm 
talking about *winks* now, let's do some praticals- stop reading this for a moment 
and in your head, try not to think of elephants.
It was hard abi, the more you tried not to think of elephants the more you thought 
of them, right. Now, what this means is there is no way to stop thinking a thought 
just by telling yourself not to think about it.
Lets take this over to positive thinking. You can't overcome the negative thoughts 
that come with trying to climb a stage and speak, for instance, just by saying - ''i 
can do it'' lia lia, it won't work. Deep down you know you can't speak in public.
Hehehe. I know you are looking at this writeup with a raised eyebrow and you are 
asking - ''oya cow, so, what works?'' *smiles* what works is Positive action. Chill, i will 
explain.
I used to have this phobia of public speaking as a tenneger. One day i went like - ''e 
don do, i need to end this fear'' so everytime before i go on stage i will say this to 
myself - ''if i fall hand make i fall hand'' then i will go on stage and speak. Of 
course, i ''fell hand'' from time.
This is where the trick comes in - after the whole speaking thing i will analyse 
everything that went fine during the speech. Things like, thank God o, i no fall for 
the stage step. 
Thank God i didn't forget my speech.
What this does is to trick your mind into 
beliving that things will always go fine during your speeches. You can't say - ''i 
believe i'm pretty'' when you know that everybody knows your face is like war.
You sef won't believe it na, so how can your subconsious? The way to fight negativity 
from your looks is to focus on something else you've got and in the long run you will 
discover you feel so good about yourself that you don't care about your face 
anymore.
For instance: an ugly babe with nice hips shouldn't say - ''i'm beautiful'', she should 
rather say- my face dey like shit but my hips na die'' shey you grab? 
A short guy shouldn't say - ''mehn, i tall gan'' nah, your mind won't believe it.
Rather he should say: ''i'm short sha but my personality can do the magic of 
tallness''

Henry: I am a staff in one of the Nigerian Banks and on this faithful Wednesday

A study by Pm News revealed that most Nigerian ladies have, at one point or another, 
dated married men. 
Some have continued to even maintain double relationships where they date a married 
man and keep their relationships with younger male-bachelors. 
Many of the ladies who spoke with our correspondent concerning the issue, said they 
feel more comfortable dating married men than bachelors. 
While some disclosed that the are dating married men because of money, some said 
they engage in such relationships because of the maturity and experience of the men 
who already have wives at home. 
However, apart from these two reasons, P.M.NEWS spoke with two ladies who said 
they were dating married men as revenge against their boyfriends. 
Many of the ladies confessed that they had to stick with married men because they 
have not found a man ready to marry them. 
Toyin Adedamola, a 36-year-old resident of Oshodi area of Lagos, told our 
correspondent that dating a married man “is not a big deal.” 
“I am old enough to marry, but where I don’t find the right man ready to put me in 
his house as his wife, should I just remain like a prisoner? 
“As I am now, I don’t mind being a second wife as long as I am comfortable and 
respected like a wife by the man,” she said. 
Another respondent, who simply gave her name as Jumoke, confirmed that she was 
dating a married man but added that she was not ready to be a second wife. 
“I am dating one married man and we have been together for two years now. He is 
ready to marry me, but I am not ready to be a second wife. 
“Experience has taught me that being a second wife would make you fight for your 
life till death. So I told him I can’t be a second wife. 
“I am only with him till I find the right person to marry me,” she said.

But for the married man, we both know we don’t have a future together, but he 
pays my bills and assists in other areas. 
“I have been managing them. The married man knows I have another person, but the 
two bachelors don’t know each other or whether I have a married man,” she said. 
For Eyitayo, dating a married man comes with risks, but she believes that in life, 
everything possess their own risks. 
“There was this man I dated last year and his wife sent people after me. I was 
beaten mercilessly and had to spend three weeks in the hospital,” the 29-year-old 
petty trader said. 
She admitted that she learnt her lesson since the mistake came from her. 
“At a time, I couldn’t do anything without thinking of him. Moreover, he was the one 
who rescued me and made me self-dependent. 
“I always called and chatted with him even though I knew it was risky. That was how 
his wife knew and came after me. 
“Though I have left the man, I am in another relationship but this time, the man’s 
wife is not in Lagos. The man lives alone and works here,” she said.

22 Yrs Old First Class Graduate Of University of Ibadan Tells Her Sucess Story

Her name is Adebayo Olayinka, 22yr old who graduated with a first class from the 
Department of Physiology, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, in the 2013/2014 
academic session, having had a 6.0/7.0 CGPA. She talks about her experience in 
school...Speaking with TUNDE AJAJA excerpts:
What was your educational experience like before you got to the University of 
Ibadan?
My dream as a child was to be a medical doctor, specifically a cardiothoracic surgeon, 
mainly because I was fascinated with the heart after I saw a medical series. 
So, most of the steps I took thereafter were geared towards achieving that dream. I 
realised that my academic performance improved when I was in SS1, and that was 
about the time I converted from being a Muslim to Christian. Before then, I was not 
considered brilliant, I was just like an average student even though I was 
hardworking, but after we resumed for SS1 class, I realised that I started having 
good scores in all my courses. When I became born again, I told God that I wanted His 
covenant with me to be that of academic excellence, and he did it. Likewise, I was one 
of the very few students offered medicine after the pre-degree programme I did at 
Obafemi Awolowo University in 2009
How come you did pre-degree programme in OAU and ended up in UI?
After the pre-degree programme in OAU, I was offered Medicine but the list came 
out when I was already in 100 level studying Physiology in UI. I wanted Medicine but I 
had to choose the course because it was the easiest path to cross to medicine. 
Incidentally, the Nigerian Medical Association banned students from crossing to 
Medicine from other departments because the number of medical students in 200 
Level was more than the regulated amount, so we were not allowed to cross 
regardless of our good grades. Then I had 6.1/7.0 but I just had to stay back. I was 
heartbroken, it looked like my whole life had crumbled, more so because I had ignored 
an offer to study Medicine in OAU, so being denied the opportunity again was 
troubling for me. I got a lot of insults from people and many people reprimanded me 
for my short-sightedness. It was at that point I told myself and God that since I 
didn’t cross to medicine, I would get a first class in physiology, and thank God, He 
worked in me to bring it to pass.
What is Physiology about?
It is a very interesting course. It has been a wonderful experience to understand how 
the body works and how things happen in our body system in milliseconds. It’s great 
that physiology affords me the opportunity to behold that wonder every day, and it’s 
cool explaining the way the body works to people. Besides, people who win Nobel Prize 
in the area of medicine are doctors and professors of physiology, so I belong to a 
noble family.
How easy was it to graduate with a first class in the course?
It wasn’t easy at all, more so in UI. In fact, I had told my sister that I would likely 
graduate with a second class upper but 400 Level was the defining moment for me. 
As against the usual belief that it is impossible to raise one’s CGPA in 400 Level, God 
did it for me, and it was by His grace. I had 6.1 in 100 Level, I dropped to a 5.6 in 
200 Level, I rose to 5.8 in 300 Level and I hit the 6.0 mark in 400 Level. When my 
CGPA dropped in 200 Level, I read more, acquired a lot of textbooks and I also was 
eager to teach others, which made the courses more familiar to me. God really 
helped me to manage my time very well because of the other things I was involved in, 
and I was very strong-willed; not moved by the things around me, except what I chose 
to do. Above all, I prayed fervently, and only five of us had first class since 1973.
If the first person who had a first class in the department graduated in 1973, how 
were you able to break the jinx?
I think one of the reasons we were the first since 1973 was because we were not 
allowed to cross to medicine. Usually the best students would want to cross to 
medicine because some see physiology as a stepping-stone. So, we all stayed back and 
carried on with our performance and all of us in the class decided to break the 
barrier and we kept a tab on one another’s progress. Most importantly, it was God’s 
will and we were just fortunate to be the ones to break the record. In truth, 
physiology is quite tasking and we were constantly told how impossible it was to have 
first class, which wrought holy annoyance in us and we were spurred to do better. 
Then, the lecturers felt that nobody merited the first class but along the line, they 
found us worthy in sound learning and character, and maybe it was just the right 
time. However, as much as it feels good to have a first class, I’m worried about the 
notion that first class students are only good on paper and that they end up working 
for third class students, which makes the society to see us as nerds. So, really, it’s a 
bittersweet experience for me, because I have to prove that though I finished with a 
First Class, I am also ‘first class’ in all dimensions, this I try to do every day.
Is there anything you would have loved to do as a student that you could not?
Yes, I wish I had taken more time to establish myself in social entrepreneurship and 
also learnt a foreign language because of the emerging need for such these days.
Did you receive any form of award as an undergraduate?
Yes, I had a lot of sponsors both in cash and kind. I was favoured. I also won Total 
E&P Nigeria Scholarship in my 200 level. It was a reward for academic excellence for 
100 and 200 level students in selected departments, so I applied, wrote the exam and 
I passed, alongside others. We were just two in my class and we were given N150,000 
per session till we graduated. The payment started at 300Level until we graduated in 
400L since we were able to maintain our CGPA to the required level, which was a 
major requirement to receive the payment per session.
What was your typical day like as an undergraduate?
Everyday had a diverse itinerary for me, so I planned my day depending on my 
activities. I slept for at least five hours daily, because I don’t use drugs, so I used to 
rest well and I read with the target I set for myself because of the other things I 
had to do. I also taught myself to adapt to several reading conditions. During exams, 
God usually had a word for me, which I did hang on to, and those words worked for 
me. On my part, I kept to my reading schedule, treating past questions and doing 
some tutorials. I used to eat well too. At my leisure, I love to think, envision my 
future, read about other things of interest and generate ideas, which could scare me 
sometimes. Then, my hostel was quite far, so I used to stroll in the cool of the day. 
What have you been doing since you graduated? 
Presently, I’m undergoing my National Youth Service Corps programme in Enugu 
State, where I’m teaching in a secondary school. I didn’t like it initially because my 
colleagues were posted to health institutions, so I thought it was demeaning to be 
posted to a secondary school, but God opened my eyes to opportunities around me. So 
I started a project termed the Education Reform Project, where I organise free 
tutorials for intending science students to enable them to have some knowledge in 
their chosen discipline, at my own expense. I want to use it as an inaugural project to 
birth my initiative on education intervention. Good education is the right of every 
child, so I am passionate about it. My siblings and parents have been of great help in 
encouraging me and I am grateful to them.
What are your aspirations?
To be a policy maker in the education sector and be a minister or commissioner for 
education someday. I am passionate about education, and it’s a drive for me, I have a 
lot of initiative to birth with the help of God, especially regarding STEM education in 
Nigeria. My immediate goals are to do my master’s and PhD in physiology and take 
some courses related to education policy and curriculum development.
Where would you like to work?
I would want to work in a university environment and an environment where 
professionalism is being put to use. I also want to be a part of efforts to revive the 
desire for science education in Nigeria.
What would you advise students, both the incoming and those already in school, to do 
to have an excellent result?
Students should set their standard at an early stage, try to read beyond their course 
materials, endeavour to teach others, study hard as if they have never prayed and 
pray hard as if they never studied. It is also helpful for them to strive to enjoy their 
course. Above all, they should love God with all their heart and publish His name with 
all they do.

He Has Dated Her For 10 Years, But Has No Plans For Marriage (Advice Her Please)

I read a story here where an angry guy shot a couple at their wedding reception 
because the bride left him for another man and this kept me wondering if my 
boyfriend can actually do same...........here is my story.
I've been in a relationship with this guy for 10years nw (yes, 10years). It all started 
in 2005 when we met, fell in love. He was and is still my first and only love . I was 
enjoying the relationship until 2years ago(though we've had our share of 
misunderstanding, I wldnt want to go into that) when I started thinking of settling 
down. I indirectly asked him if he had any plan of marrying me and I was shocked by 
the response I got. He said he doesn't believe in marriage, that everything is about 
understanding. I can move in,start producing babies for him but he can never 
carryout any marriage rites.
Answer. But this time, I told him that I don't Share the same view with him and that 
we need to go our separate ways. Since then he has been warning me that he will kill 
any man I get married to, that he cannot stand seeing me with another man........ 
In fact, I can't write down how the past year has been. I still love him and there is 
no doubt that he loves me too. But the big problem is that we are so so different, 
our views and vision are wide apart. I know I can just forget about him and move on 
with my life but he wouldn't let me be. He is always there at my door step, my 
office, giving 20 missed calls. Sometimes, I just wish I can relocate and start a new 
life, but I can't leave my job ,not with this high rate of unemployment.
I forgot to mention that he is not the faithful type, though he doesn't flaunt it to 
my face but I just get to know about it one way or the other. 
I really need advice on what to do,because even though I still have a soft spot for 
him, I don't want to continue with the relationship.
